Vintage Wedding Photo shoot set-up

{14th August 2010}

As Adrian & I are active members of The Photography Parlour, we suggested that we’d like to meet other photographers that use the Parlour for a drink and perhaps a photo session featuring each other. We thought it’d be cool to do a shoot swap so all photogaphers involved could use their portraits on their websites, etc.

However, our friends had other ideas! In fact, they confessed that they’d rather not be on the other side of the lens ha ha. Now, the day has morphed into a full-on Vintage Wedding photo shoot, complete with models, make-up artists, vintage event stylists, fantastic wedding dress designers and vintage props suppliers. It’s planned for 4th September and promises to be a very exciting day.

On Sat 14th, Louisa, Lisa & I went location scouting in Greenwich, London and these are a few of the images from the day.

I simply can’t wait to post the images from the 4th!!!!

Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, FOCC

{1st July 2010}

So what does FOCC do? Here’s an explanation from the Co-ordinator of FOCC Mid Sussex, Sheila Nash:

FOCC Mid-Sussex is a branch of the national charity, Friends of Chernobyl’s Children founded in Lancashire by Olwyn Keogh in 1995. We welcomed our first children to Sussex on 2001. We aim to support children from the Mogilev area of Belarus, much of which had been devastated by radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster on 26th April 1986.

We bring disadvantaged children between the ages of 7 to 12 years for a month’s recuperative care every summer for 5 consecutive years. We hope that the fresh air, good food and fun and loving care that they receive here will substantially support their immune systems and help them to enjoy healthier, longer and fuller lives, with the hope for a better future.

As for the day at Ferring and Findon, all the children and adults alike had a wonderful time. I think it encapsulated just what I aim for when planning the programme of activities – plenty of fresh air, just the kind of things kids should be enjoying, the beach and games together and Jo made everyone so welcome at her home and fed us all so well and the whole day didn’t cost a penny with Jo’s wonderful hospitality and my volunteer drivers providing the transport. Once again, huge thanks to all involved.

Here’s Jo’s point of view:

I first found out about FOCC from a friend in Edinburgh. She had a friend who had been a host to a number of children and I was intrigued. I looked up the FOCC website to see what the charity did and just thought what a fantastic idea it is. I met with Sheila, who runs the local branch and was really inspired by the work the charity carries out. However, geographically I was too far away for me to act as a host, but I still wanted to get involved. So Sheila and I settled on organising a day where the children could go to the beach in the morning and then come to my house for lunch, and then a treasure hunt and a game of rounders in the afternoon. I roped my neighbour Anne into helping with the sandwiches, I couldn’t have done it without her!

The children were a little shy at first, but soon found their feet posing for photos and playing on the hammock. I’d asked Funmi & Adrian to come along and take some photographs as I’ve seen their work before and wanted someone to catch the children having fun, without being too posed – although I do think we have some potential models in the group!!!

I’m extremely pleased with the photos. Funmi and her husband, Adrian just melted into the background and took some great ‘action’ photos, especially during the rounders session. They really captured on film what turned out to be a wonderful day and will be a lovely memory for all concerned.

We were thrilled when Jo asked us to cover a charity event that she was hosting for the Mid-Sussex branch of FOCC. The children, their interpreters, volunteers and coordinator started their day at Ferring Beach in Worthing before coming to join Jo, Adrian & I at Jo’s gorgeous house in Findon in  Worthing. Jo and Anne had laid out picnic areas in her garden. After lunch, everyone headed to the nearby Green to take part in the treasure hunt, which was promptly followed by a very exciting game of Rounders. All the kids presented Jo with a gift to show their appreciation after Jo gave each one their goody bags. Some of the images from the day are shown in the slide show. Enjoy:-)!

Royal Ascot

{16th June 2010}

Some of you may have seen my facebook status update on 15th June, if not, here it is again:

So excited after Yasmin bought me a grand stand ticket to the #Royal Ascot: http://tinyurl.com/538t9m Thanks for the lovely gift:-)!!
Don’t need nor want to bet, just wanna get shutter-happy with my camera haha

So I did:-)I had so much fun hanging out with Yasmin, her mum and friends. It was my first time at the Royal Ascot. As I did not have a hat flamboyant enough for the event, I decided to try and tie a gele (Yoruba head tie) for the 2nd time ever! What do you guys think of my attempt?! I couldn’t believe that it took me less than 5 minutes to tie and without pins but as they say, “the proof is in the pudding”.

Back to the races, there were lots of colourful outfits & fantastic hats, some of which are shown here. Alas, I was unable to get a better view point to get photos of the jockeys and horses due to security reasons… Perhaps, I will try to get press pass (I wish haha) next time or get there earlier in the day when the horses are being warmed up.

Ironically, the closest I got to a horse was when one that was been trained by the local police where Yasmin lives was freaked out by my gele; the horse actually stopped in its canter and had to be cajoled by the Policewoman on it to keep going. When the Police woman apologised to me about it, I went closer to hear her better and the horse actually turned round and galloped away – hahahahahaha. The Police woman finally calmed the horse down enough for me to pat its mane and then it was soothed and comfortable with me. Sorry no images of my new horse friend as camera flash or my massive lens would definitely have freaked it out in that kind of proximity. The Police woman thanked me for helping them to train the horse to be ok with ladies in geles – hilarious!

As it happened, Yasmin & I were too busy enjoying ourselves getting there that we lost track (no pun intended;-)) of time and didn’t get there till 1:30 pm!

I must add here that Yasmin turned out to be pretty good with my camera so she took the photos of me on way there & at the races. You’ll notice that we actually spent most of time there next to the band stand where the Royal Band performed loads of old English songs that brought out all the patriotism of the Race-goers. I did not bet so was not paying attention to who won what from our group. I was too fascinated by all the wonderfulness going on around me. Enjoy!

Thanks Yasmin for such a fabulous day!!!

Dayo & Tope

{15th May 2010}

You might remember that we had an engagement session with Dayo & Tope in March 2010. Well, we covered their fun wedding on Saturday. They were married at the New Testament Church of God Cathedral of Praise in Wood Green, London before they, their family & bridal party went with us to Broomfield Park in Palmers Green, London for their formals. They held their reception at the Penridge Suite in New Southgate, London. They had around 250 guests and changed into  Yoruba traditional outfits towards the end their reception.

We’re sure that you’ll join us in saying: “Congratulations Dayo & Tope! May yours be a fruitful and happy union!

Here’s a selection of images from Dayo & Tope’s wedding.

Funmi’s birthday

{27th April 2010}

As I had arranged for my friends to join me for an Al fresco lunch on Friday 30th April, I thought I’d keep my actual Birthday, 27th April, a low-key affair by not taking any cakes into my Engineering consultancy workplace.

So imagine my utter surprise, which was quickly followed by a mixture of gratitude and feeling loved when I saw this!

As I did not have either of our DSLRs with me, I borrowed my friend, Fola’s FUJIFILM FinePix F50fd to take the first 2 images.  One of my friends, Lynsey had baked the divine chocolate cake, printed and displayed the sign, card signed by friends at work, sprinkled shiny stars and glitter all over my desk, left party bubbles and just in case there was not enough chocolate in the area, she also left so Lindt Milk chocolates!!! With the help of my friends (and after saving a bit for Adrian), the chocolate cake disappeared within 20 minutes. By late afternoon, one of my friends, Guy, told me he was buzzing from chocolate high because he also had one of the Lindt chocolates.

Lynsey, I’ve said this to you before but I’ll say it here again: “Thank you so much for my lovely surprise!” I was still finding glitter in my keyboard 10 days after my birthday hahaha…

On Friday 30th, we went for our Al Fresco Lunch at the Walled Garden in Tilgate Park, Crawley. Everyone had brought different meals from home or shops so that we could all share. It was then I discovered that Mikes wife, who was not even able to join us had made me a Pear birthday cake and Courgette bread – Yummy! Thanks Maria! Your Pear Cake was awesome! Adrian was taking the photos so don’t worry, he was there to sample all the foody delights:-)!

Mickey Mouse hats were a legacy from Sofia Valentina‘s 2nd birthday party: nuff said hehe http://tinyurl.com/y9yb9mg

Homemade chocolate Flapjacks & Chocolate & Coconut Macaroons

Pear cake slice, Chocolate cookie & Chocolate Flapjack

I’m truly honoured and blessed to have had such a wonderful birthday week! Thanks everyone for coming to my birthday celebrations. xxxxx
